Light Air - City Front/ Slot - Alicia

We've had El Diablo since January and have yet to do a proper ship's log. Now's a good time to get started with it.
Very light air- we motored from Ballena Isle across the south bay, under the Bay Bridge, across the city front and raised our sails as we entered the slot. The wind was probably something like 10 knots max. We sailed out to Alcatraz and back- lowered our sails and with the flood tide raced back along the city front under the bridge and to the ramp where we tied up next to Slow Curve and had a drink with Russell and others. We then motored back across the south back neck and neck with Slow Curve. Nice moon, warm, no wind... Before entering the marina, we turned off the motor and drifted, had another beer before making our way in for the night... out of 10, I'd give the day an 8.

Selling a Catalina 27/ 30 or Similiar?

We're a young artistic couple who last January got bit by the sailing bug and bought a 1969 Coronado on a whim without knowing how to sail for $850 and have fallen in love with sailing and the bay... We're now looking to purchase a slightly larger solid boat that can handle the whole bay in normal (20-30 knots) winds (Catalina 27, 30, or something similar). We're tired of having to turn back from the slot when the wind's are stronger than 20 knots.

Since January we've taken her out at least twice a week by ourselves and with friends. We're active with other young sailors. We're learning how to race on our friend's Santana 22's. We enjoy racing but are looking for something slightly larger for over-nighting, taking friends out, and short ocean trips to Monterey Bay or Drake's Bay...

Maybe you're selling a boat that you'd rather see passed onto a young couple who's going to love it and use it as much as you have. Maybe you don't have as much free time as you used to. Maybe you think we'd be the perfect match. Let us know!

We got a storm jib to handle the heavy winds.

Staying out of the mud.

The boat came with a frayed backstay, so with some help, we took the mast down to replace the rigging.

We sailed dingies while our mast was down.

Finally getting the mast back up in April.

Learning how to swage.

Happy with the mast back up.

Russel lives in the marina where El Diablo is berthed. Without his guidance we'd not be as far along as we are. Thanks, Russel!
